Netherlands, Benschop. Black-and-white cows in a polder near Benschop. The polders near Beschop were created in the 11th century by reclaiming land of the marshlands around the rivers Lek and Hollandse IJssel. Each piece of new land (1000 to 1300 metres long and 115 metres wide) was separated by a ditch. As a result these polders are rigidly shaped.
